Welcome to Computer Lab's Home Page
All our grade levels have either reviewed their keyboarding skills or have been introduced to them.
We become familiar, with where letters are on the keyboard, in kindergarten through grade 3, by using the program "Kid Keys". Grade 3 uses this program to introduce use of the home row keys.
In grades 3 - 5, we use a program called, "Kid's Typing". This program uses the home row keys to promote speed(wpm) and accuracy in typing.
Thanksgiving Writing Contest
We recently held our annual Thanksgiving writing contest. The contest was open to students in grades 3 - 5. Students had to come up with their own ideas for the paper, type it, and do all the work themselves. Students were allowed to make arrangements with Mrs. Samsel to type in the computer lab.
The theme for the essay was “What I’m Thankful For and Why” Students told the people, things, etc., they were thankful for, why they were thankful for them, and gave reasons why everyone should be thankful for those things. The winner for the contest was Allison Anderson, runner up was Courtney Brockwell, honorable mention goes to: B. J. Olden, Carrie Wheeler, Maurice Sarden, Michael Berry, Kim Carpenter, and Amanda Drinnon.
Author's Perspective on the Christmas Story
Students were first read the book, "Cosmic Christmas" by Max Lucado to illustrate the concept of perspective. The story is the angel, Gabriel's, account of the birth of Jesus and the events leading up to it. Students and their partners picked a character from the Christmas story and are writing the story from that character's perspective.
Mrs. Samsel wants to wish you and your family a most joyous Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
