Listed below are the skills we will begin working on during the third 6 weeks in each subject. I will continuously be updating this as we progress throughout each 6 weeks. I will also be posting pictures of different fun and exciting activities my class will be participating in throughout the school year.
Reading
We will be working on the following skills and strategies in Reading this 6 weeks:
- Read and view various types of literary genres
- Decoding strategies (such as sounding out words, breaking words, and looking for word parts)
- Read orally to develop fluency, expression, accuracy, and confidence
- Reading Strategies: Question, Predict/Infer, and Evaluate
- Comprehension Skills: Making Judgements, Topic/Main Idea/ Supporting Details, Problem Solving, and Inferences
- Phonics/Word Structure: Consonant digraphs, base words; Vowel Pairs ai, ay, & compound words; Vowel Pairs ow, ou, & suffixes -ly, -ful; Vowel Pairs ee, ea, & common syllables -tion, -ture
Math
We will be working on the following skills in Math this 6 weeks:
- Vocabulary development
- Geometric shapes and figures
- Regrouping with Addition
- Using Two-Digit Addition
- Continue practicing basic addition/subtraction facts-to 20 or less
Language
We will be working on the following skills in Language this 6 weeks:
- Revise to clarify and refine writing
- Writing to Persuade
- Edit writing for complete sentences
- Identify common nouns and special nouns (proper)
- Singular nouns and plural nouns
- Irregular nouns
Social Studies
We will be working on the following skills in Social Studies this 6 weeks:
- Vocabulary development
- Using Our Resources
- Land and Water Resources
Science
We will be working on the following skills in Science this 6 weeks:
- Vocabulary development
- Gravity
- Electromagnetism
Spelling
We will have a list of weekly spelling words that the students will be expected to practice at home each night, and they will be tested on them each week.
