1st Nine Weeks
8th Graders will be working on all the skills. They will be required to complete as many as possible of the following lessons:
Reviewing Alphabetic Keys (the keys that are most commonly misused)
Numeric lessons 1-12                      12  Lessons
Skill Builder A-T (Accuracy)        20  Lessons if time permits
Students will be learning how to type memos, cards/invitations, personal letters, and will compose and type a short paper comparing the Civil War Era to the Computer Age.

This is the recommended lessons that students are to complete in this time frame and based on consultations with other teachers. However, if a child is absent I will take this into consideration. It may be that some students will work every minute and not complete all lessons if that is the case the students will be graded on the work they have completed. The students grades will be based on participation, number of  lessons completed, technique inventory, vocabulary quizzes, vocabulary test, a letter, a paper comparing the Civil War Era to the Computer Era and/or letter. Grades will be averaged across the board with all grades counting the same.

The Numeric Keypad will be extra credit if your child decides to work on this during his/her free time. This would be a good activity to learn how to use the keypad for a calculator.

7th Graders will be working on the following:
Alphabetic lessons 1 - 19                19 Lessons
Numeric lessons 1 - 12      12 Lessons (if time permits)

This is the recommended lessons that students are to complete in this time frame and based on consultations with other teachers. However, if a child is absent I will take this into consideration. It maybe that some students will work every minute and not complete all lessons if that is the case the students will be graded on the completed work.  Part of the students grades will be based on participation, lessons completed, using correct fingers, and technique inventory. Please emphasize to your child the importance of using the correct fingers at home.

6th Graders will be working on the following:
Alphabetic lessons  1-19 lessons
A lot of the lessons will be teacher dictated and worked on as a class instead of doing these individually.  Technique, using correct fingers on keys, curving fingers, posture, etc. will be stressed in class and will be a part of your child's grade. Students will be graded on participation, following teacher directions, correct techniques (curved upright fingers, quick-snap keystrokes, down and in spacing, quick return without spacing at line endings, using little finger for return key)  posture, correct finger postions, and vocabulary quizzes. Students may not complete all of the 19 lessons. If not, we will pick up where we stopped in the seventh grade. Students are asked to use the correct fingers for each key even when not in keyboarding. This will help your child to excel on the computer keyboard.
