Daily Routine
Get Ready for the Day:  Students complete their morning responsibilities to begin the day.

Morning Meeting:  Students participate in activities about the Leader of the Day, the calendar, weather, days in school, No More Letter of the Week, and other activities.  We write a morning sentence, and begin our day in a fun way while we develop important skills.

Flex Reading: Students are broken into small groups to help target their needed skills and work on their independent levels.

Core Reading: Students learn to identify letters and their sounds.  They also learn sight words.  We play games and have activities which make learning the alphabet and how to use it fun and meaningful.  Students also practice writing the letter.  Each student will be a "letter expert" of at least one letter.  They will help other students learn their letter and sound as well.

Lunch:  Students have a 30 minute lunch break.  Parents are welcome to come and eat with their child in the Assembly Room once a month.

Core reading Part II:  This is a very exciting part of our day that the students look forward to.  They use their phonetic spelling to write stories.  Students draw a picture with at least five details.  Then, with the help of the teacher or adult volunteer, they write their story by using their knowledge of sounds and their use of sight words.

Math:  Math time is a time of exploration with materials and numbers.  Students use objects to learn about math concepts and practice what they are learning.

Storytime:  Students relax and listen to both familiar and new stories.  These are often related to the theme of the week.

Rest time:  Students have a 30 minute rest break.  They may listen to quiet music or stories on tape.

Recess:   We have a 30 minute recess most days.  Please send appropriate clothing for playing outside.  In the Fall and Winter, please send a coat or jacket, and as it gets colder, a hat too.

Center Time:  Students have an opportunity to practice what they are learning in an appropriate way for kindergarteners:  PLAY!  Although students are playing with various materials, they are learning many useful skills.  Some of the areas in our room include:
ABC Center                              Math, Games, and Puzzles
