The Battle of the Books is a nationally recognized literature contest in which students answer trivia questions based on twelve books they have read and studied. It is similar to Jeopardy, the main difference being there is only one subject category; literature.
The tournament is sponsored by the Beta club and is held during their annual Fall conference at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN.
There is one position available on the West View team with one additional spot for an alternate member. The alternate will come to practice as a team member, and be ready to step in if needed.
Two levels of assessment are given to determine the team members. The first level of assessment is a written test. The top 10 scorers from the written test will advance to the buzzer round. The highest scoring student from this round will be given membership to the team, with the next highest score filling the spot of alternate.

“So if you enjoy reading and are up for a challenge, be sure to try out for the team. You could be the “secret weapon” we need to bring home next year’s trophy!”

Each fall, the West View Middle School Library hosts a Scholastic Book Fair to help raise funds for new library books. Each Book Fair features specially priced books and educational products, including newly released works, award-winning titles, children’s classics, and current bestsellers from more than 150 publishers. Fair attendees can also help build classroom libraries by purchasing books for teachers through the Classroom Wish List program. All Book Fair proceeds will be used to purchase essential classroom resources and new book titles for the school library program. Parents, children, teachers and the community are invited to attend. We hope you will help to make this year’s book fair a success! |

The West View Adopt-a-Book Program is a wonderful way to donate new literature to the West View Library while honoring a loved one in a truly distinctive manner.
Gift books can be purchased to celebrate a retirement, graduation, birthday or other milestone. Participation in the Adopt-a-Book Program also ensures that the library will continue to build its collection to support the education and reading interests of students.
A commemorative bookplate bearing the name of the person being honored/memorialized will be placed in each donated book. The library will notify the honoree of their gift, and the recipient will be given the opportunity to read the book before it is added to the library’s collection for all to enjoy.
To begin the donation process, simply complete a gift book form and return it to the library. |
