Text Box: September, 18, 2008 Dear Parents and Students, Thank you for your interest in the West View Book Club. The purpose of the book club is to promote literacy by giving students the opportunity to participate in a variety of literature based activities, such as thought-provoking literary discussions, craft making, and field trips. We will select a different book every month to discuss at the following meeting. Book selections will be based on critical reviews as well as popularity with book club members. Meetings will be held on the third Thursday of each month from 3:00 – 4:30pm. The dues to join the Book Club will be $10.00 for the year. This fee helps to purchase supplies for book club activities. Please note this does not include the price of new books each month. In hopes of accommodating all interested families, I am offering several options for acquiring books. The first option is for parents and students to locate the title at a local library, or see if a friend has a copy to lend. You may also order used books through Amazon.com, or purchase them at a retail outlet. If you know another family participating in Book Club, you may share books, alternating payment each month. The last option is ordering the title through the library. Each month, I will be sending out book orders through Amazon.com for those who are interested. If you would like me to purchase your books for the entire year, the price for this service will be $10 each month. This will cover the price fluctuation between paperback (less than $10) and hardback (more than $10), as well as shipping charges. You may pay $10 each month, or pay for the entire year at one time. The library book orders are flexible. If there is a month that you would like to be added to the library purchase list, simply inform me before the order is sent, and you will only be required to pay the price of the book plus shipping. As with any group, a certain level of academics and behavior is expected from students. I have established a set of rules and procedures to address discipline problems. Please read over the attached sheet outlining these steps, and return the discipline agreement along with the club dues by next month’s meeting.
