The West View Beta Club was established in 1985. Membership in the Beta Club is open to any student in the school who meets the requirements established and written in the Constitution and By-Laws. Membership is based on honorable character, good mentality, creditable achievement, and commendable attitude. Students must have all A’s and B’s on the report card each 6 weeks. Any disciplinary action that requires office intervention will place the student on probation and prevent any active participation in club activities. New members are invited after the first 6 weeks of each year.  We currently have about 250 active members in Beta Club.

Tennessee State Convention
Fall is an exciting time for West View Beta Club members. This is the time to compete, first with each other to earn the opportunity to attend the state convention, and then with other Junior Beta Club members from across the state. The state convention is held at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville. Students compete in many categories including Arts & Crafts, Speech, Essay, Spelling, Tennessee History, Tower of Power, Battle of the Books, Talent, and Songfest. The West View club has managed to fill a trophy case with first, second, and third place trophies.

Trips
The West View Beta Club considers taking a fun, yet educational field trip at the close of each school year. This trip involves 3 days, 2 nights, 2 or 4 chartered buses, and up to about 180 students with teacher chaperones. In the past years many interesting places have been visited.
In Charleston, South Carolina, the group has visited Fort Sumpter, toured the ships at Patriot’s Point, toured Magnolia Gardens, and learned to catch blue crabs in the Low Country. In 2001, the group finished the trip by spending the day at Carowind’s Amusement Park.
Williamsburg and Yorktown, Virginia have provided a look at early government and many unusual stories about the early years of American history.

A Tennessee tour, going to Nashville and Memphis, taught Beta members many new things about their home state. This trip included a meeting with the Governor. The group has traveled to Atlanta, Georgia and attended an Atlanta Braves baseball game. Students and chaperones also enjoyed seeing the Giant Panda at the Atlanta Zoo.One of the most interesting sites we visit is Washington, D.C. The tour included the Lincoln Memorial, Mount Vernon, the Capitol, and watching the changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetery. Students and chaperones have been treated to a private tour of the White House, hosted by Tipper Gore, wife of then Vice President Al Gore and a private tour of the Capitol building by state representative, Van Hillary. Both were very informative and friendly and posed for pictures with the group.
